What is a Multimedia Design?
Multimedia design is a study of the use of various forms of design, such as graphics, video, or audio to produce creative content for different media, such as mobile apps, tv, newspaper, and many more. It involves the use of more than one presentation medium to communicate with the public.
Throughout time, technology is evolving and so does the way we interact. That’s why the medium of interaction and design are also improving. The interactive elements used in multimedia may also include the user’s things like text entry, voice command, touch screen, mouse manipulation, and video capture.
What skills do you need to become a Multimedia Designer?
Creative Mind
Multimedia design study requires a creative mind that can explore ideas through text and image. A multimedia designer also needs problem-solving skills to generate solutions for their clients through creative means. Having to come up with new ideas and innovative designs was never an easy thing to do, so having a visual eye is essential in multimedia design.
Adapt to New Technology
Technology has now played a big role in design, and always evolving throughout time. Being a multimedia design student means you have to familiarise yourself with various forms of technologies and software. Getting used to software such as Adobe, InDesign, and Photoshop can be the first step.
Communication Skills
As a multimedia designer, you have to articulate your ideas to your colleagues, partners, and clients. It requires a good communication skills to be able to deliver their opinions/ideas properly and with modesty. Multimedia designers are also expected to listen to their client’s needs and convey a satisfying solution.
Typography
Multimedia design is not just the ability to make something visually appealing, but also the capability to make a written language legible and amusing. Therefore, typography is an essential skill that is needed for multimedia designers. They need to be familiar with types of fonts and have knowledge of the best style guide that is suitable for certain designs.
