What is Nursing about?
Nursing is generally associated with the health care sector as a professional who care for individuals, families, and communities in maintaining, or recover optimal health and quality of life. Their responsibilities related to assist physicians, prepare patients for procedures and keeping the healthcare facilities. Different type of nurses have different roles in the workplace, such as pediatric nurses explain procedures to patients and addressing the question of their parents.
Being a nurse is not simple, it requires sheer hard work and endurance due to long hours of work and spend a lot of time with patients. What skills do you need in Nursing?
Compassion
As a nurse, a genuine compassion is needed for the patients in order to show sensitivity and respect that help ease their worries. Occasionally, you can also be a good listener and comfort them by showing kindness and empathy. Nurses need to deal with patients, their families, and barriers in an intense environment and, therefore, they would need to withstand the stress and maintain good service daily.
Emotional Stability
In a hospital, facing life and death is a common event and nurses would need to possess a strong will in handling those traumatic situations and suffering. A great nurse is one who can manage the stress of heartbreaking situations and, at the same time, draw strength from the incredible moments when they happen.
Critical Thinking
Nurses make a lot crucial decisions on a daily basis, sometimes under extreme pressure, hence they must be good problem-solvers. Due to limited time and resources, they would need to utilize it efficiently to achieve better outcomes. Critical thinking helps to integrate information, evidence, outcomes, and experiences, and translates them into effective plans and solutions for patients.
Entry Requirments
For those who registered as a nurse and obtained the Diploma in Nursing are allowed to proceed to the 2-years of Degree in Nursing (Post-Register). In contrast, people who finished their pre-university courses in an irrelevant field would only able to study the 4-year of Degree in Nursing (Pre-Register).
