What is Quatity Surveying?

The study of Quantity Surveying involved in estimating and managing construction costs in order to prevent any excessive expenses and optimize the building quality at the same time. Quantity Surveyor govern and control the usage of resources on property development projects such as equipment, materials, and etc. The duties of quantity surveyors included, but were not limited to tender management, assembly documents, contract management, and valuation of construction work. 

Even though the salary of quantity surveyor is high, it is proven to be challenging because you will encounter different expertise in various fields, constantly learning new skills and knowledge. What skills do you need to be a Quatity Surveyor?

Excel in IT and Calculation

Quantity Surveyor needs to adapt to the newly technology, mathematical software and programmes, it greatly improves the productivity and shorten the time needed for calculations. Being a quantity surveyor also required to be good in mathematics as a lot of calculations took place before the initial construction project. A single miscalculation may cause a tremendous amount of damage to the progress of the project.

High Learning Ability and Logical Thinking

In the courses of Quantity Surveying, you will tackle a wide range of subjects that involved construction and building technology, materials, law, cost management, etc. You will also train to think practically and logically as you will need to evaluate the quality of materials and getting the cheapest price for your client.

Diploma (2.5-Years)

  • SPM/O-Level: Minimum 3Cs including Mathematics

Bachelor’s Degree (3/3.5-Years)

  • STPM: Minimum of 3Cs; CGPA 2.0 or
  • A-Level: Minimum of 3Ds; or
  • Malaysian Matriculation: Minimum CGPA 2.50
  • Austalian Matriculation: Minimum of ATAR 60 with an average score of 60% in Mathematics; or
  • Foundation in Arts or Science: Minimum CGPA of 2.50; or
  • Diploma: Minimum CGPA of 2.50
