Things To Do While Waiting For SPM/IGCSE 2022 Results

Sharing is caring :)

There’s a lot of time to kill between now and the time when you’ll get your SPM/IGCSE results. You’ll have to wait for those results before you can apply for a local university or college, and get even more anxious before you’ll know if you’ve been accepted.

Thing is, there’s plenty of things that you can do to keep yourself occupied until then! Here are some ideas:

#1 Apply For A Part Time Job

No matter what your academic performance has been, looking for a part-time job is a great way to keep yourself busy and earn spendable income at the same time.

Come up with a list of careers that interest you. There are many options when it comes to part-time jobs, from helping out in a cafe, retail shop or restaurant, to working as an event helper, call centre operator or even freelancing as a programmer or writer. These jobs can provide you with opportunities to learn and build your skills and knowledge for the future. Besides, it also earns you referrals that can facilitate future job searches.

#2 Pick Up New Hobbies

Next, why not – pick up a new hobby? There are lots of things to do in your spare time such as learning how to paint, scuba diving and many more. You can also join in local sports events or competitions and learn how to play the guitar with your friends.

Learn a new skill. If you’re not doing much, try learning how to speak another language. For example, sign up for a language course and learn Mandarin Chinese while you wait for your results. Who knows how beneficial these new skills will be to you once you’ve stepped into your university life?

Other than these activities above, do what makes you happy! Don’t just sit around at home doing nothing since that can only make you anxious when it comes to waiting for SPM/IGCSE results. Plus, keeping busy will help you stay positive about the results you’ll be getting soon!

#3 Volunteer

Why not spend your time helping people who need your help? If you volunteer for a few hours at non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and teach children or adults with special education needs such as autism, it will keep you from being bored and help you develop yourself as a person. And who knows – these experiences may be valuable once you enter university life or the workforce.

Volunteering can also enable individuals to help others in a selfless way. When individuals volunteer they may choose to help people, support philanthropic causes and provide assistance to their local community. Besides that, you will most likely build soft skills such as teamwork, time management, empathy, responsibility and communication that will be highly beneficial for all aspects of your life.

Examples of NGOs that you can volunteer at in Malaysia are:

  1. Women’s Aid Organisation
  2. SUKA Society
  3. Dignity for Children Foundation
  4. MERCY Malaysia

#4 Research About Different Higher Education Pathways

Now that you are done with your SPM/IGCSE, you must be considering a direction to go in terms of higher education. No matter if you have a course in mind or not, spending your free time to do some research would be extremely beneficial for you. Researching about all of the educational pathways can give you an idea of all the available options for you to pick from. Once you have a list of the options available, it will be easier for you to narrow down the best option for you and pick the best university that offers it! Remember to also look into the student lifestyle of a university to ensure you get the best experience possible.

However, if you’re still undecided on what you would like to pursue upon receiving your results, why not spend this time learning more about your likes, dislikes, interests and passions. Either through taking quizzes, watching videos or even speaking to your peers, this will be able to help you tremendously in figuring out your next steps.
