You may occasionally see athletes or celebrities with purple circles on their skin as a result of cupping. Perhaps you have a friend who swears by acupuncture for back pain or herbal teas for colds. People are increasingly turning to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practices like these to not only treat but also prevent disease.
Chinese medicine has been practiced for thousands of years. Enrolling in Chinese Medicine, on the other hand, is about gaining an understanding of Chinese philosophy and how it has been adapted into the healing arts in ways that are still relevant today.
What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient health and wellness system that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. Western medicine is primarily concerned with disease treatment. On the other hand, TCM considers your overall health.
Its basic premise is that a vital life force known as Qi flows through the body. Any Qi imbalance can lead to disease and illness. This imbalance is thought to be caused by a shift in the opposing and complementary forces that comprise the Qi. These are known as yin and yang. The ancient Chinese believed that humans are microcosms of the larger surrounding universe, interconnected with nature and subject to its forces. A key concept is the balance between health and disease. TCM treatment aims to restore this balance through treatment tailored to the individual.
