Dual Degree or Double Major?

dual article

The words Dual Degrees and Double Majors can be confusing especially if you’ve never heard or learned about them before. Graduating high school, the next big step for students is to choose their education pathways. Why not pursue a dual degree or take on double majors?

What is a Dual Degree?

Dual Degree; graduate with two separate degrees at the same time.

Despite the large amount of work required to complete two degrees, students who choose to pursue dual degrees are the ones that are equally passionate about two areas of study and don’t want to have to choose between them. And some get dual degrees that complement each degree professionally.

What is a Double Major?

Double major; graduate with a degree of two specialisation areas.

Mainly, students decide to take on double majors with the purpose of boosting their academic grades and increasing their rate of employment.

Dual Degree vs Double Major: What are the Differences?

To put it simply, a dual degree is obtaining two separate degrees at the same time. Meanwhile, a double major is getting a single degree with two different specialties.

For sure, each of them has its own pros and cons.

Double majors give you different skills set to prepare you for your career paths, but it doesn’t guarantee you a higher income than your single-major peers.

Dual degree programs give you the privilege to complete two degrees with lesser duration — and lesser cost. But looking at the social networking perspective, it will severely limit your ability to establish and maintain connections with your peers and classmates.

Which one should I go for?

For you to choose your degree paths, you need to take into account the bigger picture; your career goals.

There are a number of students that struggle to find their passion and their career goals.
