The Petronas Twin Tower and the Seri Wawasan Bridge, both of which are located in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, are two examples of Malaysia’s exceptional architectural achievements in the field of skyscraper and bridge architecture. Do you have any idea where these fascinating patterns were conceived? That’s right, an Architect!
In most cases, architects will ensure that the places they create for people to live and work are risk-free and conducive to good health. Because Architecture is such a dynamic field, they will have the opportunity to experience a variety of trends and make use of the most recent technology. People are able to examine and appreciate your work in the same way as they do with visual artists since they may admire it just while driving by your buildings.
What is Architecture?
Architecture is basically learning about planning, designing the construction of buildings, and organising spaces. Simply say that architecture is the concept of art and the practice of creating buildings and infrastructures. Making experiences in a space is what architecture is all about. It can be thought of as both the art and science of making buildings or spaces work well and look good. When designing, an architect thinks about how the people who will use the space will react to it and what emotions he wants them to feel. This is what makes architecture different from engineering, which works with math and physics as well.
Architecture is the process of creating the space in which people will live using physical elements. Having said that, there is more to it. Our identities, our histories, and our customs are all reflected in the building in some way. It represents both how we view the world and how we feel ourselves in relation to the world.
What you’ll be studying to become an Architect?
Most of the time, students who enroll in architecture programs will study a great deal of information that they will like. In a degree in architecture, the importance of the idea and the conception of the design on paper cannot be overstated. It is a combination of art and engineering that encompasses not just designing but also surveying, building, and even decorating. The following is a list of examples of the kind of classes that students will likely take throughout their time spent working on an architectural degree:
- Architectural history & culture
- Building materials & construction
- Environmental Science & Sustainable Design
- Building Technology
- Measured Drawing
- Computer-Aided Design & 3D Modelling
What skills are required in Architecture?
To become a skilled architect, you will, of course, need to become proficient in a number of different abilities.
- Good at designing & detailing
The architectural profession is not an easy one to enter. The creation of many different architectural designs calls for a significant amount of perseverance. This is because there is a significant amount of attention that has to be paid to detail. Both of these qualities are intertwined with one another and affect one another. This is the perfect profession for someone who can see the large picture while still paying attention to the smallest of details. In order to develop or design the greatest possible structure or area, architects will need to have the keen eyesight of a hawk and carefully examine every nook and cranny.
- Good imagination, creative
Architecture is not simply about constructing a structure or decorating it; rather, it is all about what you may conceive and how you can represent your imagination concept in a script. At this point, your creativity must be appealing. It is a strategy that aims to fulfill the needs of the end user by employing inventive manipulation of the various elements of design, such as mass, materials, space, volume, texture, light and shadow, color, and so on. In addition, it takes into account the potential for the development of new possibilities, the amount of money needed for construction, and the level of technology needed to create the final product.
- Presentations and communication skills
It is essential for architects to have strong communication skills since they must be able to explain their ideas to both their customers and their coworkers in a precise and understandable manner. The presentations are yet to be said that is the hardest task in architectural works. The consumer may express a general want verbally, and the architect’s job is to take that, apply as much relevant information as they can, maintain their discipline, and provide the customer with more than they asked for. The product has to be sophisticated, easy for the target audience to use, and conducive to participation, in addition to maybe merely inspiring.
Pathway to become an Architect by LAM qualifications
The Board of Architects Malaysia, also known as Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM), is in charge of determining the minimum requirements that must be met in order for an individual to practice architecture in Malaysia. LAM Parts I, II, and III are the parts that make up this.
Malaysia offers Diploma and Foundation programs for SPM and O-Level architecture students. After completing the 1-year Foundation, students will attend the 3-year undergraduate architecture degree at chosen university, which is approved by Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) similar to LAM Part 1. The Diploma in Architectural Studies takes 2.5 years following SPM, followed by 2 years in Year 2 of the architecture degree.
STPM, UEC, A-Levels, and other Pre-U Programs graduates may attend the 3-year architecture degree. After the Bachelor’s in Architecture, the next level is a 2-year recognized Master’s in Architecture equal to LAM Part 2. Malaysian architecture master’s graduates work for two years before taking the LAM Part 3 examinations and becoming architects. After SPM, being a Malaysian architect takes 8 years.
