Sharing is caring :)

Australia’s consistent economic growth and new technological surge towards advancement calls for a market with a copious supply of jobs. In order to keep up with these technological advancements, Australia’s education sector is striving to intersect technology into established knowledge. Thus, graduates can be included in the job market. (source)

In that respect, new courses are bound to be created to anticipate the new demand of skills from the job market.

In this article, we will explore studying Information Technology (I.T) or Computer Science as an education basis towards changing industries, or even new industries spawned by these technological advancements. I.T is a highly versatile degree as it is a valuable skill central to the operations of businesses and organizations.

The Breakdown on I.T

As mentioned, I.T is a broad field with their own specialisations and sub-units. There are some students who prefer taking a general information technology, information systems or computing degree, which covers a well-rounded area of skills such as: artificial intelligence, database programming, games design, mobile computing, network engineering, software development and telecommunications.

Or some may prefer studying a specific sector within I.T, like business information systems, or I.T in creative fields, such as desktop publishing or interactive multimedia. Either way, this list will provide a comprehensive overview into all bachelor degrees associated with I.T in reputable Australian universities.

What will You Study?

Please take note that these are just general classes you may learn in the computer science, different degrees from different universities may vary, please research every potential course thoroughly before making a decision or contact us for more details.

Programming I, II

Programming is arguable the base for the entire course, you would generally learn units like if statements, loops, boolean logic, class creation, struct creation, creating interfaces, polymorphism, inheritance and more. There was also some use of basic data structures like arrays and vectors.

Data Structures

The class is extremely important, as Data Structures are used all over computer programming and the backbone in most of the code computer programmers write. It teaches you to harbour the ability to look at data and know the best way to store it for the sake of optimal time and space performance. You would typically learn about: arrays, stacks, linked lists, doubly linked lists, trees, graphs, heaps, etc.3

Web Development

This class has a lot of skills that are directly applicable to a job in the tech industry, You’ll learn skills about HTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, PHP, and JSON. You’ll learn how to create UI and how to interact with a data layer that then interacts with the network.
