Prospective students are carefully considering their future career possibilities when choosing courses and universities. They look for university international rankings and other resources that would provide information on graduate destinations and starting pay. With tuition fees on the rise, students will be searching for a better return on their investment. Not all reputable universities have strong employer networks; the level of assistance and services provided by the career advice service centre, as well as volunteer and internship experience, are all important aspects in increasing a student’s employability.
Students may compare university performance in terms of graduate employability results and prospects using the QS Graduate Employability Rankings. Four different indications are used to calculate the total score, each with a different weighting.
The following are the four indicators:
Employer Reputation | 30% |
Alumni Outcomes | 30% |
Partnerships with Employers | 25% |
Graduate Employment Rate | 15% |
QS Graduate Employability Rankings: Indicators
Employer Reputation
In taking into account the key component of employability, the Employer Reputation component is special among current worldwide ratings. Because the majority of students leave university in pursuit of a job after completing their first degree, the reputation of their university among employers is critical.
Alumni Outcomes
This indicator aims to shed light on which universities are producing influential graduates in a variety of fields, ranging from performing arts to finance, medicine, and politics. QS utilises a combination of externally published lists (e.g., Forbes 30 under 30) and also other in-house sourced information, such as international leaders and high ranking officials, to create the list.
Employer Student Partnerships
This indicator is intended to provide information about how active a school is in collaborating with corporations to provide work experience, training, financing, and internship opportunities. It’s fair to assume that the more formal ties they have, the more prepared their graduates will be for the job market.
Graduate Employment Rate
The proportion of graduates who started paid (non-volunteer) jobs within 15 months after completing their degree. However, sometimes a country’s economic situation would have a significant impact on students’ post-graduation employment chances.
