Getting your SPM results is one of the most nerve-wracking moments in your teenage years. If your results turn out to be unsatisfying, you may feel like your dreams of pursuing your tertiary education are ruined. Well, no it isn’t.
We’ve got a few suggestions for you to think about!
1. BTEC programmes
Have you heard of BTEC programmes? Read more to find out everything there is to know about pursuing a BTEC programme locally.
BTEC programmes are known as the “Business and Technology Education Council”. It is an internationally recognised, specialised work-related qualification. BTEC programmes have increasingly become popular among students as an alternative to A-Level programmes. In comparison to typical tertiary education course structures, BTEC programmes are designed in a way where practical learning is incorporated into theoretical learning.
BTEC at Levels 1 and 2 are equivalent to GCSEs and Level 3 equivalents to A-Levels, whilst Level 4 -7 hold the same levels as a typical Bachelor’s Degree. BTEC programmes are assessed mainly through coursework and practical projects. BTEC Programmes are a UK based learning system where you will be provided with two options upon completing the 2 year programme:
- you can directly enter the workforce with your diploma, OR
- you can proceed to study abroad for a degree from a recognised university!
Note: Do keep in mind that BTEC Programmes are not MQA Accredited for students who fail SPM wish to enrol.
Benefits of BTEC Programmes
- Vocationally focused
In comparison to typical diploma programmes, BTEC programmes’ course structure is built in a way where it focuses on vocational training. Hands-on experience and learning from industry leaders increase your chances of employability upon graduation, as this form of education can ensure that students develop the skills that the industry is looking for.
- Fast track to employment
BTEC programmes are way shorter than most degree courses, which will enable students to dive into employment right after graduation. Besides a short time to graduate, BTEC programmes are also known to be cheaper than most degree courses. With a BTEC, you can become a professional worker, an entrepreneur, or go to a university in the United Kingdom to further pursue your Bachelor’s Degree.
