AI has ceased to be a science fiction fantasy, it is the force that is running the contemporary world. The algorithms that filter your social media feed built the products that are revolutionizing the healthcare industry, and AI is at the frontline of human innovation. The UK has one of the most prestigious and industry-oriented education systems in the world, in case you want to spearhead this revolution.
What is Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a form of technology that allows computers and machines to act and behave like humans and be able to learn, comprehend, problem solve, make decisions, be creative and autonomous.
Devices and applications have AI that can identify objects and recognize them. They are able to interpret and react to human language. New information and experience can inform them. They are able to give elaborate suggestions to users and specialists. They are able to operate on their own without requiring human intellect or intervention (a typical case being a self-driving car).
Reactive Machines (The Basics) Reactive machines are the oldest and simplest form of AI. They do not store “memories” or use past experiences to influence current decisions. They simply react to the world in front of them based on a set of pre-programmed rules. (e.g. Chess computers)
Limited Memory (The Current Standard) This is where almost all modern AI exists today. Limited memory AI can store previous data and use it to make better predictions over time. However, this “memory” is temporary and used only for a specific window of time. (e.g., self-driving cars or ChatGPT).
Theory of Mind & Self-Awareness (The Next Frontier) This stage is currently under heavy research. “Theory of Mind” is a psychological term that refers to the understanding that others have their own beliefs, desires, and intentions that affect their actions.
