What is Artificial Intelligence

Categorisation of Modern AI
Reactive Machines (The Basics)
Reactive machines are the oldest and simplest form of AI. They do not store “memories” or use past experiences to influence current decisions. They simply react to the world in front of them based on a set of pre-programmed rules. (e.g. Chess computers)
Limited Memory (The Current Standard)
This is where almost all modern AI exists today. Limited memory AI can store previous data and use it to make better predictions over time. However, this “memory” is temporary and used only for a specific window of time. (e.g., self-driving cars or ChatGPT).
Theory of Mind & Self-Awareness (The Next Frontier)
This stage is currently under heavy research. “Theory of Mind” is a psychological term that refers to the understanding that others have their own beliefs, desires, and intentions that affect their actions.
